Peter Loved Yiddish

Peter Sings Raizale -- click here
Peter loved Yiddish, he loved everything about the language, its cultural foundations and the rich theatrical and literary traditions -- many bestowed to him by his father Sid Stark. This song is something he recorded when a cousin (also a Yiddish lover) was on his deathbed, it was one of a dozen tracks he recorded to bring some cheer and delight to a loved one who was suffering.

Rabbi Ilana Garber, one of Peter's students, delivered this stirring eulogy at his funeral on January 8. It was a cold and windy day, and all the gathered friends and family were in a state of complete shock. Ilana's words were comforting and heartfelt, and her tribute speaks for itself.

A Student's Tribute

One of Peter's students, Claudia (Slavin) Schwartz, wrote this essay about him 20 years ago, when she was in high school. Not only does it capture Peter's unorthodox teaching style, but her words are a moving and beautiful tribute to a teacher who had few equals.
